Is it safe to install radiant floor heat in my shower?

Absolutely! SunTouch, Nuheat, and DITRA-HEAT products are designed to heat any floor – even in your shower. These have all been thoroughly tested and are UL Listed for use in shower floors and benches.

Please note, radiant floor heating is never approved for installation in walls.

We offer mats that are designed specifically for a standard shower layout. However, do not limit yourself to these options! With SunTouch TapeMats, the mesh can be customized by cutting and laying the wire out around the drain to fit the shower design. SunTouch, Nuheat, and DITRA-HEAT cables are also a great choice to allow for full movement and design to heat the entire floor, around the drain, and in benches.

If you plan to heat your shower and the bathroom floor, we recommend that you use two different cables or mats and hook them up to the same thermostat. Because waterproofing is an essential feature of a shower-heating system, if the outer coating of the cable becomes damaged or accidentally cut during installation, the system will need to be replaced because repairs are not allowed in showers. When installing two different cables or mats with one in the shower and the other for the rest of the bathroom floor, you will not lose heat to the rest of the bathroom if the wire is damaged or if the shower is being remodeled.

  • I installed this in a custom tile shower several years ago.

Who wants to step into a cold, tiled shower floor?

One of the best things we did. Still loving it! With a separate circuit for the rest of the tiled bathroom floor we can independently control when and how each one warms the floor.

Will never, I mean never, install a tile floor without heat.
